'Within', curated by David O'Halloran. Apartment Books,
Melbourne, Australia.
The book is conceived as an exhibition. The theme
Within explores the states of mind associated with
meditation and reflection - as well as feelings of melancholia and
loss. Some artists produced work exclusively for the book project.
Much of the art is introverted, uncertain and marked by a desire
for darkness. The book format was quite deliberate, extending the
themes of introversion and reflection, because the experience of
looking through a book is entirely personal, solitary and
reflective.
Seven Australian and New Zealand artists present 40 works in a
curated exhibition in the form of a book. Artists - John Barbour,
Jane Burton, Alin Huma, David McDowell, Monique Redmond, Sarah
Ryan, Darren Sylvester.
Published 14 April 2010.
DAVID O'HALLORAN - An experienced curator of Australian
contemporary art. I hope to publish a small number of thematic
exhibitions in the form of books.
